WD 2TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage
Works as expected for home network storage

I use the WD My Cloud for storage on my Google Fiber home network.

Before purchasing the WD My Cloud, I used the second hard drive on my 2001 FLEXATXPRN Gateway computer for network storage for a number of years.

In January 2018 I decided to upgrade to a newer system and bought the 2 terabyte version of the WD My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage from

I’ve been using it practically trouble-free on my home network ever since. I don’t use it for anything fancy, though. I mainly use it to drag and drop files from my Mac and Windows networked computers. The only problem I’ve encountered is that my MacBook Pro and iMac will sometimes lose access to it. That doesn’t appear to happen with my Windows computers.

When it happens on the Macs, I just re-logon to by going to Go | Connect to Server on the Mac main menu. Other than that minor problem, I have no complaints.

A couple of things I will note are: It is a lot smaller than I thought it would be just from looking at the pictures online. I guess reading the dimensions would have helped with that. You can get a perspective of the size, by looking at it next to my MS Surface Pro in one of the photos below.

The other thing is, if installation location matters to you, I was only able to install mine in a location where it could connect directly to the Google Fiber network box. I originally wanted to install it on a hub in a different room. I haven’t tried connecting it to a hub connected directly to the Google Fiber box.
